Frequently Asked Questions
- Where are you?
We are located in East Hartford, Connecticut.
- Is there a store to visit?
There is no store, per se. Only the
workshop and cane storage facility. If you are in the Hartford
area and really twist our arm we might let you come by. However,
we strive to have the website up to date at all times, so even our
latest artistic creations should be visible almost immediately.
- How much do canes cost?
Prices range from $25 USD to $75 USD
for most canes, though custom creations can be more. Please Note: We have a minimum
order of $50 USD. Usually this can be satisfied with our "Combo's"
pre-packages. But if you are really stuck for some little thing, contact us and
we'll work something out..
- Payments
- Payments have to be in US currency or paid via a
credit card (they handle currency conversions) at the moment.
We primarily accept money orders and Paypal transfers. Items
listed on eBay can be paid using their direct payment. We will
accept personal checks, though we wait for them to clear before shipping
your order.
-
- Where will you ship to?
- Currently our shipping is limited to the USA and
Canada. When we determine regulations related to international sales
and shipments we will commence shipments outside North America. You'll want to
contact us with any ideas for international purchases.
-
- What kind of cane should I get?
- Crook neck Shephard's canes are economical
standbys, very durable, great for load bearing, and stylish when customized. Walking
sticks offer the same advantages, however control with a
straight pole isn't as easy for many people. Derby,
or T-handled canes, provide somewhat better control. For
load-bearing, we recommend the solid wood versions. Offset and Adjustable
canes are typically bullet-proof aluminum, ugly as sin, and loosen and clank over time.
Canadian, or forearm crutches provide great control, especially in
two cane situations. Folding canes are very nice for stealth mode,
being unobtrusive until needed.
-
- How Long should it be?
- If you have a rough idea of the size you need, add a
wee bit, and we'll
pre-cut it. After you use it for a while, you can trim off a little
more at a time if it
seems not quite right. Very easy to do with a fine-toothed saw in wood, or a fine
hacksaw on aluminum shafts. Or use a chainsaw for that special hand-hewn
effect. Please note: We find customers extremely resistant to the costs associated with
contravening the laws of physics to lengthen canes.
-
- What are your canes made of?
- All of our canes are wood, primarily
ash. All handles are wood with the exception of the clear lucite
models. Some of the heavier weight canes are of finer, more
costly hardwoods, and so noted.
- How do you ship? How Long Does It Take?
- We ship via FedEx, UPS, and the USPS.
Usually FedEx 2 Day is the best compromise between cost and time, though
UPS ground is cheaper and can be just as fast if you are close
enough. Generally, you will receive your completed cane within three days
of shipment anywhere in North America via FedEx or Airborne. To make shipments to
Europe and the Asian rim possible at a reasonable price, we will use whatever is
economical, so shipments could be 7-10 days.
